Paper Abstract CHALLENGES OF SCIENCE BASED EDUCATION
No one can deny that science has contributed a lot in developing and shaping the world. With science people can understand the nature of the world macroscopically or microscopically; living things or non-living things, take benefit from them, and develop the economics and social aspects of this world. Science improves our potential of rational thinking and intellectual capacity. No wonder that developed countries spend so much money and effort in research in science and technology, and the rest become the recipients of their products. At the same time, improvement in S&T also makes them alienated from their cultures, traditional and religions; the more they understand this world scientifically, the more they marginalized their religions and traditional cultures. Education is the best way to improve our living standard and quality, and preserving our culture and religion. But, with the dominance of science in education, we are producing people which have high scientific literacy but less religious and cultural awareness. We are producing more ‘scholars’ who are ‘literates, but uneducated’, and ‘knowledgeable barbarians’. This is because we are producing people who are motivated by the intellectual capacity, and not by the cultural and religious values.

Abstract
KNOWLEDGE INTEGRATION IN PRIVATE HIGHER LEARNING INSTITUTION: THE ROLE, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECT OF KOLEJ UNIVERSITI ISLAM ANTARABANGSA SELANGOR
The establishment of Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) is primarily aimed to carry out a noble task towards achieving its greatest mission on the integration of knowledge philosophy based upon the tawhidic paradigm and principle. Since its inception some 15 years ago in 1995 as a private Islamic higher education institution, KUIS has rapidly grown by offering various integrated academic programs beyond Islamic Studies discipline which also include other academic disciplines such as Business Studies, Human Resource Management, Language and Communication, Nursing, ICT and Multimedia. Islamic values are incorporated in all disciplines and branches of knowledge being offered by KUIS. Nonetheless, greater challenges in the era of globalization require KUIS to act proactively and progressively to ensure its philosophy, mission, vision and direction are sustainable to produce “generasi rabbani” in line with the integration of the knowledge concept and philosophy. In facing future challenges, 10 suggestions are proposed and outlined to ensure KUIS remains relevant and steadfast as an Islamic University in facing challenges amongst modern and conventional universities which are more advanced and well established. The future and prospect of Islamic higher learning institutions in Malaysia look brighter and have a great potential to succeed if they remain focused and place greater emphasis on academic quality and excellence.
