Academicians

1. Professor Abdul Ghafar Ismail

Professor Abdul Ghafar Ismail is currently head of research division, Islamic Research and Training Division, Islamic Development Bank and professor of banking and financial economics. He is on leave from School of Economics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He has been a lecturer since 1987 and has been teaching several economics courses such as money and banking, financial economics, advanced macroeconomics, Islamic economics system, money and capital market in Islam and international finance; Islamic banking; money, zakat and the real economy; risk management in Islamic banking; Islamic financial management.

2. Professor Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah

Professor Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah is currently a Professor at IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She obtained her LLB (first class honours) and LLB (Shari’ah) (first class honours) from the IIUM. Shortly thereafter, she successfully completed her Masters of Comparative Laws (MCL) from the same university. In 1998, she was conferred with PhD in law from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. She had also served as a member of Shari’ah Committee to a number of financial institutions in the past. Currently, she is a member of the Syariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia), Malaysian Securities Commision and Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA), and an independent Shari’ah Advisor for Islamic securities (sukuk) issuance, approved by and registered with the Malaysian Securities Commission. In addition, she is also a member of the Shari`ah Board of Labuan Re and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, the Shari`ah advisor for Danajamin (2009 – 2010), a member of the Board of Directors in the Malaysian Institute of Islamic Understanding and a member of the disciplinary committee for the Malaysian Bar Council. She is also a member of the Shari`ah Board to Khazanah in relation to two of its exchangeable sukuk that had been issued by Rafflesia Capital Ltd and Cherating Capital Ltd.

3. Professor Dr. Rusni Hassan

Professor Dr. Rusni Hassan is currently a Deputy Dean of Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She obtained her LL.B and LL.B (Shari’ah) from UIAM. Shortly thereafter, she successfully completed her Masters of Comparative Laws (MCL) and she holds PhD in law on 2004 from the same university. Currently, she is a member of Shari’ah Committee in Housing Development Financing Corporation Maldives and Shari’ah Advisory Council for IBFIM. In addition, she is a Shariah Advisory Council for Bank Negara Malaysia (2010- 2016) . She had served as a member of Shari’ah Committee at HSBC Amanah (M) Berhad and HSBC Amanah (Takaful) Berhad in the past.

4. Assoc. Prof. Shahida Shahimi

Assoc. Prof. Shahida Shahimi educated at Universiti Malaya on Bachelor of Syariah (Econs.) (Hons) in 1999. She continued her study on Masters of Economics at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2001 and completed her Ph.D of Economics from the same university in 2006. Her fields of specialization are Islamic banking and finance, Islamic capital market and Islamic economics. Currently, she is a Head of Research Center for Islamic Economics and Finance (EKONIS-UKM) (2013-2016) and also working as an Editor of Malaysian Journal of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management, UKM.

5. Dr Muhammad Hakimi Mohd Shafiai

Dr Muhammad Hakimi Mohd Shafiai is the Senior Lecturer, School of Economics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Kyoto, Japan. His undergraduate and Masters Degrees were in the area of Shariah from the University Of Malaya (UM). His areas of interest and expertise include Islamic economics, Islamic finance and agricultural economics.

6. Prof.  Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohammad Haji Alias

Prof.  Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohammad Haji Alias is currently the Research Fellow at Faculty of Management and Muamalah, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He holds a Ph.D. degree in 1985 from University of Southampton, U.K . His undergraduate and Masters Degrees were in the area of Economics.  He also holds certificate in Arabic and Advanced Arabic Language from Universiti Of Malaya (UM). Previously in he was Felo Utama FU6 Faculty of Economics and Muamalat USIM.

7. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ridhwan Ab. Aziz

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ridhwan Ab. Aziz currently Associate Professor at Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He holds bachelor in business administration in 2001 before gain Master in Islamic Banking in 2008 and Phd in Islamic banking in 2011. He had done many research work and publication since 2009. His areas of interest and expertise include Islamic banking, Islamic Finance and Islamisation of economics institutions.

8. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh is Professor of Islamic Development Management at the Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia. He was the Founding Director of the Centre. He obtained D.Phil from Oxford University, MA and Graduate Diploma in Economics from University of East Anglia, UK, and B.Soc.Sc (Hons) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. His research interests are Islamic-Based Development, Islamic Development Management, Islamic Political Economy, and Islamic Revivalism. He has 14 books and more than 300 other publications to his credit.

9. Prof. Dr. Muhamed Aslam Muhamed Haneef

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Aslam Mohamed Haneef is currently Professor at the Department of Economics, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He has published books and articles and conducted research in various areas of Economics, Development Studies and Islamic Economics. His current research interests are in socio-economic impact of awqaf and Islamic Economics and Finance Human Capital Development. His Ph.D thesis entitled “Intellectual Parameters of Contemporary Islamic Economic Thought“has won the Ismail Faruqi Award for Academic Excellence in IIUM (1996).

Industry

1. Mr. Mohd Nazri Bin Chik

Mr. Mohd Nazri Chik holds a Bachelor of Shariah (Islamic Jurisprudence) and Masters of Shariah from the University of Malaya. He started his career in Bank Islam was in June 2004 and served the Bank for five years in various designations including Senior Manager – Head of Shariah Division. Currently he is a secretary of the Shariah Supervisory Council, Assistant General Manager – Head of Shariah Division, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. Besides, he is an Accredited Trainer for Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia and a member of the Shariah Supervisory Council of Amana Bank Limited, Sri Lanka. In addition he has also lectured at the Ibnu Sina Institute for Islamic and Science & Technology Studies and Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya.

2. Mr. Mohd Zamerey Bin Abdul Razak

Mr. Mohd Zamerey Abdul Razak obtained his Bachelor in Shari’ah at Yarmouk University (Jordan). He succesfully completed his Masters in Shari’ah at National University of Malaysia on 2002. Currently, he is pursuing his PhD at University of Malaya in Islamic Commercial Law. He started his career as a teacher at Maahad Kiblah (Bangi). Furthermore, he also worked as Operation Manager (2002) and Head of Sharia’ah in Department of Takaful IKHLAS (2003). Now, he is a Vice President, Head of Shariah Division, for Bank Rakyat.

3. Mrs Suri Hanim Binti Mohamed

Suri Hanim Mohamed is currently the Islamic Banking Director at Bank of Maldives PLC. Previously, she was Chief Executive Officer at The Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM). Recently in 2019, she was recognized as the 86th Most Influential Women in Islamic Business & Finance during the 2nd Womeni Award 2019 organized by UK-based think tank, Cambridge IFA. She is holding BA (Hons) in Accounting from University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. She also obtained Master in Islamic Financial Practice (MIFP) from International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Kuala Lumpur. 

4. Mr Abdul Rahman Bin Mohd Yusoff

Mr Abdul Rahman is the Head of Shariah Department, OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad. He is also the Deputy President, Grand Council of Charted Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals (CIIF). He holds a Diploma in Banking from Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM), a Bachelor in Finance from Indiana State University, USA and a Master in Business Administration from Morehead State University, USA. He gained experience from various positions in CIMB Malaysia and Hong Kong, Infopro Sdn. Bhd., Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB) and Cagamas Berhad.

5. Mr Makhtar Bin Abdullah

Mr Makhtar Abdullah is currently Chief Executive Officer in Association of Shari’ah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS). He holds a Diploma in Accountancy from Universiti Teknologi Mara and a LLB from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He gained experience from various positions in Turnaround Managers Incorporated (Malaysia), EM Consultant, Metro International Advisory, Naber Corporation, Dubai Islamic Finance Centre (DIFC) and Centre for Islamic Banking Finance and Management (CIBFM).

6.  Datuk Mohamed Arsad Bin Sehan

Datuk Mohamed Arsad Bin Sehan serves as Chairman of Koperasi Kakitangan Bank Rakyat Berhad . He has more than 30 years of working experience in banking and finance institutions. He began his career with Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad in 1978 as a Bank Officer. He served as the Head of Sector for Financing and Consumer Credit of Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad. He joined PureCircle in 2009. He had a long career of 31 years, from 1978 to 2009, in the banking industry with Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (“Bank Rakyat”). At Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, he held various senior management positions including that of General Manager of Commercial Banking, Assistant General Manager of Banking Operations, Sector Head of Financing and Division Head of Planning and Development and Corporate Services. He spent 7 years as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of a private limited company dealing in the manufacture and supply of standby power systems on secondment from Bank Rakyat. He serves as the Chairman of Bank Rakyat Employees’ Co-operative Berhad and Koperasi Kumpulan Profesional Kuala Lumpur Berhad. Datuk. Bin Sehan holds Bachelor of Economics (Statistics) from University of Malaya.
