3rd ISLAMIC FINANCE INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE (IFID) 2019

International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF), KUIS in collaboration with Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), KUISCELL and National University of Malaysia had organized 3rd Islamic Finance Intellectual Discourse (IFID) 2019 on 24th – 26nd September 2019 at Bangi Convention Centre. There were eight (8) academics session by invited speakers has been held during the program.

2nd ISLAMIC FINANCE INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE (IFID) 2018

International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF), KUIS in collaboration with Kolej Pengajian Islam Johor (MARSAH) had organized 2nd Islamic Finance Intellectual Discourse (IFID) 2018 on 20th – 22nd February 2018 at RHR Hotel @UNITEN, Putrajaya.

This event was attended by 35 participants from various backgrounds and institutions. This three (3) days event was officiated by Dr Mokmin Basri, Deputy Rector Academic and Research, KUIS. There were seven (7) academics session by invited speakers has been held during the program.

 

METHODOLOGY  WORKSHOP

On 3rd August 2017, International Research Centre of Islamic Economic and Finance (IRCIEF) had organized methodology workshop conducted by invited speaker, Dr Latifa Bibi Musafar Hameed. The workshop was attended by 25 participants involving KUIS lecturers and Master students from UKM.

The workshop was conducted from 8.30 am – 4.30 pm with 3 sessions. The first session began at 9.00 am with an “Introduction to Qualitative Approach and Types of Studies Suitable for Qualitative Method”. The second session of “Qualitative Research Method” began at 11.00 am after morning tea break for 30 minutes. And lastly the third session on “The Suitability of the Research Methods with the Studies” began at 2.00 pm and continued with Q&A session until 4.30pm. The workshop which was conducted for eight hours ended successfully.

ISLAMIC FINANCE INTELECTUAL DISCOURSE (IFID) 2016

On the 18th until 20th October 2016.  International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) KUIS in collaboration with MARA Professional College Bandar Melaka (KPMBM) has organized the Islamic Finance Intellectual Discourse (IFID) which held in Novotel Hotel Suits and Resorts Melaka. The objectives for this program is to provide exposure to intellectuals, students as well as the industry on current issues relating to Islamic Finance besides inject firm understanding and resolution towards current issues on Islamic Finance. This program also held to provide exposure relating to the concepts and operations on the implementation of Islamic Financial system. These programs were attended by 51 participants coming from local and international academic and industry.

The program begin on 18th October 2016 with opening ceremony which officiated by Ybhg. Datin Junaidah Binti Abdul Majid Senior Director of Investment MARA. The Opening Ceremony was also attended by Prof Dr Ab Halim Tamuri, Rector of KUIS. After the opening ceremony ended, we continued our program by speech from invited keynote address speaker, Datuk Dr Daud Bakar and the morning session ended. The afternoon session was continued by first invited speaker, Prof Madya Dr Rusni Hassan, Deputy Dean IIUM Institute of Islamic banking and Finance International Islamic University Malaysia with her topic on Sustaining Financial Stability through Shariah Governance Framework.

The second day begin by speech by Prof Dato Dr Noor Inayah Yaakob with the topic on University-Income Generated Through Waqf followed by Prof Dr Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali with the topic on Harmonising Contract-Based Shari`Ah Requirements & Market Realities: “Will It Work?” and the morning session ended. The afternoon session continued with the next speaker, Ustaz Nazri Chik, Group Chief Shariah Officer with the topic on Islamic Banking Operation and the second day of the program ended successfully.

We begin our third day on 20th October 2016 with next invited speaker, Pn Apnizan Abdullah, representative from IAIS Malaysia carrying the topic on Crowdfunding as an Alternative Fundraising Tool: With Special To The Malaysian Regulatory Response and continued by Tuan Haji Rustam Mohd Idris, Deputy Director of Islamic Banking and Takaful Department, Bank Negara Malaysia with the topic entitle On Policy Considerations Indeveloping A Dual Financial System In Malaysia and the morning session ended. We continued the afternoon session with the last invited speaker, Prof Dr Abdul Ghafar Ismail with the last topic on Public-Private Partnership Financing: “How does it work?” and the program ended with presentation of certificates to all participant and photography session.

 

IRCIEF LEADS REQUIREMENT STUDY WORKSHOP FOR SADAQAH INSTRUMENT IN BANKING INDUSTRY BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF SHARIAH

International Research Centre for Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCIEF) KUIS had organized a Requirement Study Workshop for Sadaqah Instrument in Banking Industry Based on the Principles of Shariah on 20 October 2014 and it was attended by 38 participants among academicians and members from the banking and finance industry in Malaysia. This workshop was the first step to realize the hope of the recipient of The Royal Award for Islamic Finance 2014, Dato’ Dr Abdul halim bin Ismail who was also the founder of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad to introduce Sadaqah as a product of Islamic banking. This hope was first expressed in his speech at the Global Islamic Finance Forum (GIFF) 2014 on 3 September 2014.

This workshop was opened by KUIS Rector, Associate Professor Dato’ Dr Abdul Halim bin Tamuri, and it was followed by a special tawjihat from Dato’ Dr Abdul halim bin Tamuri on Sadaqah as a product of Islamic banking. In the same program, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad donated RM30,000.00 for their zakat on business to KUIS to be distributed among those deserve. The check was presented by Encik Mohd Nazri bin Chick on behalf of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad to KUIS Rector.

An exchange-of-ideas session was held and it was moderated by Encik Wan Rumaizi bin Wan Husin. The session was organized by grouping the participants according their areas of specialization namely Shariah, Law, Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, and Operations. At the end of this session, IRCIEF Director Dr Latifa Bibi came up with the following resolutions based on input from the participants:

  1. IRCIEF intends to become the center for the sharing of knowledge related to Sadaqah as a product of Islamic banking by bringing academicians and their industry counterparts together.
  2. IRCIEF welcomes any interested party to present their working paper/ proposal to conduct a study related to Sadaqah and IRCIEF will try to secure the funds needed from any relevant organization.
  3. IRCIEF will organize seminars and conferences on Sadaqah in order to set the platform for academicians and members of the industry to exchange ideas and opinions on how to develop Sadaqah as a banking product.

It is hoped that this workshop will kick-start studies on the establishment of Sadaqah House in Islamic banking system in Malaysia. IRCIEF wishes that this Sadaqah House will be established in banks in the future.
